Amazon Coloring Book Trends - June 2025
Amazon coloring book trends show the market is always shifting. With June in full swing, we took a deep dive into the top 50 best-selling adult coloring books on Amazon. This list is based on best seller rankings with a focus on coloring books for adults. Or as Amazon puts it, best sellers in coloring books for grown-ups.
If you're an author looking for market research or a fan curious about what's hot, here's what you need to know.
1. The $7.99 List Price Rule
Right now, $7.99 is the dominant price point. Two-thirds of the top 50 are priced right there. The average list price across the best sellers is $8.71. Only seven of the 50 coloring books are priced over $10 and two sit at $9.99 which is soon to be a key number.
Starting June 10th, Amazon KDP will begin paying out lower royalty rates for books priced under $9.99. This will make it harder to keep that $7.99 price while still earning decent royalties. Take my latest coloring book, Cozy Coffee, for example. Currently priced at $7.99 it generates $1.95 in royalties per sale but that will dwindle to just $1.16 per sale after June 10th. I am easily able to see the impact of those changes on the KDP Royalty Calculator I recently made.
If you're a coloring book publisher, this could impact your pricing strategy. Market leaders like Coco Wyo will likely dictate whether everything shifts up in price. Pricing changes only take a day or two so there is no need to shift pricing yet. If you are a coloring book author then make sure you have a game plan that is ready to implement on or around June 10th.
2. Small Books, Big Wins
The 8.5 x 8.5 format is the clear favorite. About 64 percent of the best sellers use this square size.
Why? It fits nicely in your hands. It's easier to color on the go. It feels more like a gift item and less like a workbook.
But there's a downside. If you’re used to using 8.5 x 11, you will need to rethink your backing pages when using alcohol markers. If you have any good recommendations on 8.5 x 8.5 inch backing sheets, I'd love to hear about them.
Sticking with the small theme, 40 coloring pages is now the standard for adult coloring books with 21 of the top 50 being coloring books with 40 coloring pages. When I started making coloring books in 2024 I noticed 52-page coloring books were very common. Analyzing the current top 50, more than half of them (27 of 50) are 40 pages or fewer.
3. Bold and Easy Is a Hit (But Not Everything)
Bold and Easy designs are everywhere. Nearly 40 percent of the best sellers promote this coloring style.
It’s great for coloring with markers. Great for stress relief and great for time. Sometimes you just want to unwind for 15 to 30 minutes instead of multiple hour-long sessions that some of the more intricate designs call for.
That said, more than half of the books on the list do not use Bold and Easy branding. There's still plenty of room for more detailed, intricate, or offbeat styles. If your designs lean more artistic or story-driven, there's still a clear audience for them.
4. Reviews Keep You Relevant
While this list is based on sales rank, we couldn’t help noticing the role of reviews.
Nine books on the list have more than 5,000 reviews. Some have over 15,000.
This isn’t just social proof. It’s fuel for the algorithm. Books with lots of reviews are more likely to be recommended, shown in "related items," and featured in search.
If you're an author, focus on gathering early reviews as it pays off long term.
5. Coloring Book Authors Leading the Pack
Coco Wyo is the clear leader in this space. Out of the top 50 books, 20 are published under their name. That’s nearly half the entire list.
Jade Summer remains a legacy brand with five top performers. Hikaru Kotz and Vivi Trinta also stand out, each with multiple entries in the best-seller rankings.
If you're an author, it’s worth studying what these brands are doing well. From theme consistency to frequency of releases, they’ve built trust and recognition with readers.
A recognizable brand with a focused niche can go a long way in this market.
Final Thoughts
The top sellers show there’s no single formula. Pricing, format, and style all play a role.
The main takeaways? Keep your price competitive. Design for an audience that actually exists. Pick a style you enjoy and market it clearly. And whatever you do, encourage those reviews.
We'll be tracking how the June 10th royalty change affects things. Stay tuned.
Happy coloring.
